1. New glass window tops available. Many convertible tops come with plastic rear windows. Plastic windows get brittle and crack. They also yellow with age, often getting so brown that they are safety hazards. Converting a plastic window top to glass is possible. Glass window tops for older (1990 to 1997) Miatas have been around a long time. Now, if you own a Porsche Boxster or a Honda S2000, you can make plastic window problems a thing of the past. • 1997 to 2002 Porsche Boxster (986). These tops are made from A5 Sonnenland canvas (as original) and come with a heater/defroster equipped glass window heat sealed into the rear window position. These tops require no frame modification and work on both the Boxster S as on the regular Boxster. Though the window is not as tall as the plastic window that it replaces, new owners report that they have more than enough visibility.

• 2000 to 2001 Honda S2000. These tops are available in both the original PVC-based vinyl and an upgraded canvas. The frame requires only minor modifications for a glass-window top to work beautifully in this car. Windows are heater/defroster equipped and are the same size as the '02 through '05 S2000s.

2. TPU plastic now in stock at Premier. BMW spent many years and much money developing an improved window plastic to be more scratch- and brown-resistant than standard plastic. The result, "TPU" plastic, was used in the tops of their very high-end Z8 Roadsters from 2000 to 2003. With the Z8 now out of production, Premier has TPU plastic in stock for window replacements on vehicles of all types. We can also get replacement tops made with TPU windows. TPU is expensive, but much less than the cost of an early window replacement. We'll be glad to consult with you about how these can be used in your car.
